About us
The Moscow Transport Museum is the history of not only transport, but also of changes in the city. Urban transport is referred to:
• driver of innovative ideas and changes in the city;
• media space for cultural and social initiatives;
• convenient urban space for creativity, art, and communication.

Museum`s goal dedicates to study the history of the city`s transport.
The Moscow Transport Museum is all transport, roads, streets, and public spaces of the capital. The Moscow Transport Museum owns the largest collection of historical urban technology. The museum funds contain more than 250 copies of cars and trucks.

The quantity and quality of the collected exhibits put the collection of the Moscow Transport Museum on a par with the world famous museums in London, New York, Munich, Lucerne, and Beijing. But exhibition`s activity goes far beyond the continuous exposition. The Moscow Transport Museum is the history not only of transport but also changes in the city.
Permanent exhibition
At the end of 2023, the permanent exposition of the Moscow Transport Museum will be introduced
at an architectural monument, a masterpiece of constructivism – Melnikov's garage at Novoryazanskaya Street, building №27.

The main exhibit of our museum happens to be the building of the former garage of trucks by the architect Konstantin Melnikov. It will become a source of inspiration for the creation of a museum exposition, a multifunctional cultural center, an immersive theater, a territory for cross-cultural projects, and remarkable collaborations.

We will tell the history of the city and its inhabitants through the prism of legendary transport facilities. We will engage visitors in a dialogue about the future of the city and participation in changes of the city, country, and world, through art and technology.
'In the new space, the Museum will become a multifunctional cultural center, an interactive theater that immerses viewers in the history of transport and its future, a territory for cross-cultural projects and remarkable collaborations.
We will tell the history of the city and its inhabitants through the prism of legendary transport facilities. We will engage the visitors in a dialogue about ecology, the principles of sustainable development of society, and communication between people. And this conversation will be launched before the updated exhibition concept is implemented. The museum is available throughout Moscow'.

Place`s history
Garage at Novoryazanskaya Street, 27 is the second transport area by Konstantin Melnikov, built in collaboration with engineer Vladimir Shukhov. The building is considered a masterpiece of constructivism that has no alternatives in the world. Melnikov accepted an order for the design from the Moscow municipal services immediately after the creation of the Bakhmetevsky Bus Garage, where the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center is located today, but this time the task was solved in a new way. This is how a horseshoe building appeared on the triangular section behind the Kazansky railway station, which was compared to a hammer and sickle in Soviet times. It held up to 260 trucks, which moved through space without the need for turns according to the direct-flow system invented by Melnikov.

The new space of the Moscow Transport Museum will include a permanent exhibition that will open after the restoration of the museum infrastructure.
On January 28, 2020, before the building was closed for restoration, we remembered its history, looked into the past and went to the future. The architectural monument has become a platform for the only show of a theatrical and musical performance dedicated to the birth and collapse of the ideals of the twentieth century.

For the new space of the Moscow Transport Museum, composer Alexei Sysoev created a bespoke symphonic work 'The Beginning of the Movement', which includes fragments and arrangements of the main musical creations of the Constructivists. The main character of the 'polyphonic promenade' was the architectural masterpiece, atmosphere, and history. Moving from one part of the building to another, the audience fell into the musical and light stream of time, which carried them from the 20s of the twentieth century to the 20s of the new millennium. Through the era of high hopes into the harsh reality of everyday work, where tension was pressed by the power of a percussion solo on springs. The end of the central episode was the transition to a critical point for the country – the dramatic nineties, behind which the present opened up.

The theatrical performance took the participants through the century to the new chronology of the building`s life. The only show of this performance was not only a presentation of the future stage of development of the Moscow Transport Museum but also an opportunity to pay tribute to the architectural and engineering ideas of Konstantin Melnikov and Vladimir Shukhov, who gave their descendants a unique heritage that is filled with new meaning.
The main Museum topics
We are sure that the transport history reflects the history of the city, the whole country, and each of us. The future exposition is dedicated to the inextricable connection of generations, what unites us.

We will talk about the key ecological role of urban transport in the future of the city and the planet, 'green technologies', a reasonable attitude to the climate, to ourselves, and each other.

We are changing and the space around us is changing. Our task is to create an up-to-date environment for communication and conscious dialogue about the future of the city in a global context.

We will study the past, present, and future. We will become researchers of the urban depths as a habitat. We will look at the city as a means of communication.

Urban hero
Together with you, we watched diverse films and performances, the characters of which were buses and trolleybuses, trams and taxis. These stories are an important part of growing up and childhood memories.

Cultural code
We will turn a unique museum collection of transport objects into the center of the continuous exposition. And we will devote it to the connection of generations, legends, stories, dreams.
